Here is a short sketch about how Live Wire! BBS came to be

Late 1989 is when it all began
Modem scene around was very dull. There were no public systems to connect to or any service that one could access. The cost of modems was really high and still is artificially high. Added to that the poor infrastructure did not help matters at all. With this backdrop starting something like a BBS was the logical thing to do. Since we felt there was a need and non existed at that time, we decided to start one. What held us back was the legality issue. No matter who we talked to, we could not get a straight answer that addressed this one thorny issue. So while we were up and running we kept a very low profile. Within a year we had gathered enough momentum to really go "public" and let the world know that we existed. The start wasn't easy and the response was poor. Starting from where nothing existed we were well aware that the gestation period would be long and there would be a lot of concept selling and hand holding that would be needed. We did just that and soon the number of users that would connect up started to rise. Pretty soon there was a flood of users that were calling in and we had to take urgent steps to add more and more lines. Today we not only plan well ahead of time but at any given point of time have spare lines that will get into service the moment there is a need or a break down in the existing numbers. That's the level of service that even some commercial services in India can't boast about.
